Met officer nominated for award after saving people from building blaze

PC Neil Dobson has been nominated for a Metropolitan Police Bravery Award after his heroic actions helped save seven people from a burning building.

Neil had been conducting an arrest enquiry with his dog Monty and other colleagues from Operation Viper when he became alerted to a fire in a nearby building by a member of the public.

Without a thought for his own safety, Neil rushed into the building, finding the basement flat was full of thick black smoke and the door was locked from the inside.

Neil and his colleagues cleared every flat over the span of three floors, despite suffering injuries from breaking down doors and it becoming increasingly difficult to breathe.

This continued until the building was cleared and everyone was brought to safety.

Without Neil’s quick actions the fire could easily have transpired into a tragedy.
