As we approach the festive season, I want to take a moment to thank each one of you for the professionalism, courage and dedication you have shown throughout 2025.
Christmas is a time for reflection as we look back at the challenges and the achievements.
This year has demonstrated the resilience of officers.
The amount of protests that have been policed in London and across the UK has been relentless and I know has come at a personal cost to you all.
Less time with your loved ones, rest days cancelled all to keep the capital safe.
It hasn’t been an easy year with the implementation of tough choices, police office roles being removed, officers who through no fault of there own who are unable to be front line are in the process of being moved to other areas, other departments some don’t know where they will be going.
We have been working tirelessly to represent the interest of those officers affected and will continue to do so as we go into 2026, and the process develops.
We continue to support all officers under investigation, who are subject to vetting regulations, and the various other processes under Police Regulations. We are also supporting officers who come forward to report wrongdoing. We are here for all of you.
I am immensely proud of the dedication shown by our representatives and members, your professionalism, integrity, and compassion remain the foundation of policing in London.
As we move into 2026 there will be further challenges and with this comes opportunities for positive change. We will continue to work constructively with the Metropolitan Police Service, partners and Stakeholders, while never losing sight that we are here for our members.
By supporting one and another and speaking with a collective voice we can help shape a better future for policing in London.
The police reform paper could change how we look in the future and whilst I encourage reform we have to be part of the discussions to influence policing in this country.
Policing never stops and we cannot predict what is going to happen but we can support each other, care about each and look after each other.
We will continue to protect officer welfare, working to secure fair pay and conditions, improving safety on duty, and ensuring that processes are just and proportionate.
Christmas is a time when my thoughts turn to family and reflection. I want to pause and take a moment to remember those from our policing family both serving and retired who are no longer with us.
Each one of them gave so much in service to others often at great personal sacrifice. They are remembered with respect, gratitude and pride and remain part of the policing family always. My thoughts are with their families, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
I want to wish you and your loved ones a peaceful Christmas and a healthy and happy new year.
For those of you working over the festive period, please know that your sacrifice is recognised and appreciated.
Thank you for everything that you do, not just at Christmas but every day of the year.
