Adjusted Duties Redeployment Process
MBB Circular 85-2025
Further to the recent announcement from the MPS regarding its intention to commence a process of redeploying Adjusted Duties Officers, arising from the Pillar 1 and Pillar 2 reductions in posts, we would like to provide you with an update. This redeployment process, referred to in employment law as “bumping,” has been recognised by case law as lawful in certain circumstances. I wish to set out a summary of the position as it currently stands, the work being undertaken by the Federation, and the next steps to be taken.
For the avoidance of doubt, this process was presented to the Federation when it had been signed off by the Management Board, without prior full consultation, concerns have been raised when we were aware this process was being considered.
All officers, whether adjusted or not, who fall within the scope of this redeployment process will have been formally contacted by the MPS and invited to submit expressions of interest. In the first instance, redeployment will be managed by the relevant Local Resource Planning Manager (LRPM), with the presumption that officers will remain within their current command. Where local redeployment is not feasible, officers will be reassigned within their respective business group (e.g., FLP, MO). In circumstances where redeployment within the business group cannot be accommodated, allocation will be determined by the Corporate Posting Panel.
The Met Federation has instructed Employment Lawyers to review whether the Met’s current process is lawful and if it could be challenged individually or via Judicial Review. At this stage, it is not possible to assess any prospects of a legal challenge, but this may change once we are in receipt of the required information from the Met.
As soon as we have this information Niven Poliah will be publishing some further guidance.
If you have any immediate questions on this issue, can members in the first instance please liaise with their local reps who can escalate issues to their respective Council Secretaries.
