Matt Cane, General Secretary of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said: "This appalling level of assaults will not be tolerated and we expect the stiffest sanctions for the perpetrators.
"After a relentless year of policing protests and having much needed leave and time off cancelled, our hard working colleagues will be fearing more of the same in 2026.
“There aren’t enough of us. Police officers are continually having days off cancelled, working longer shifts and being moved from other areas to facilitate these protests.
"We are emotionally and physically exhausted.
"Our thoughts are with our injured colleagues. We are supporting them as best we can.
"Officers should be going home at the end of their shifts, not to hospital."
