The Metropolitan Police Federation was pleased to be able to support a West Midlands Police officer who has won an Employment Tribunal against her force.
West Midlands Police has admitted 19 instances of discrimination and sexual harassment against former Detective Inspector Rebecca Kalam.
She was supported throughout the Tribunal by Metropolitan Police Federation Representative Paul Odle, as she was not backed by her local Police Federation in the West Midlands.
Paul said: “We applaud the claimant for her courageous attributes of challenging wrongdoing within her force. These behaviours were not acceptable in society or policing. They should not have happened.
“As the Metropolitan Police Federation, we were pleased to be able to step up and support the claimant through what was a difficult and complex case.
“This shows that the Metropolitan Police Federation stands for fairness, equality openness and integrity in all what it does for members.”
Paul added: “Detective Inspector Kalam was discriminated against for pointing out the wrongdoings and the failures of the force for mistreating female officers in the firearms command of West Midlands Police.
“Sadly, she lost full trust and confidence in her local Police Federation branch - hence why she sought the assistance and the experience of myself and the Metropolitan Police Federation.
“We were pleased to be able to step up and support this officer during what was a very difficult time for her.
“She is now vindicated and able to get on with her life.”
