For most officers their warrant number is a 6 digit number which does not include a p or their pay prefix.

MPF Statement on anonymity ruling for firearms officer known as NX121

Rick Prior, Vice Chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said: “Who would want to be a firearms officer? Frankly, who would want to be a police officer at the moment with the way we are being treated?

“As we regularly remind politicians, the public and the press, being a firearms officer in London is one of the world’s toughest jobs. Officers, who volunteer for the role, know the responsibility and accountability that comes with it.

“But our police officers must have confidence that they have the protection needed to do the difficult and dangerous job society expects of them.

"The Metropolitan Police Federation notes the decision to lift the anonymity of the firearms officer known as NX121 on 30 January 2024.

“For officers, it goes without saying that this decision is hugely concerning.

“As a Federation, I can reassure our members that we continue to support NX121 and his family at this difficult time; and work to mitigate any risks this decision from the courts might bring.”
